A la Carte
I have had a soft spot for A la Carte since it first appeared (back in 1989). This is a game about cooking. Yes, the aim is to get your dishes prepared and presented before the other players. This means seasoning the ingredients and cooking it to perfection! However, you do all this on the table top, not in a kitchen.
Each player has their own frying pan and 'hotplate'. They try to get the heat right by rolling the dice. And they season their dish using the little bottles of herbs and spices. However, each bottle contains salt as well, so you have to shake them carefully to get seasoning and not too much salt onto your pan.
What really makes the game is that you can sabotage other people's dishes or, if they look like succeeding, even steal their dish. A la Carte is a wonderful, light-hearted game that has been a favourite of mine for over twenty years. The production of this new edition really does the game justice.
For 2-4 players, aged 14+, playing time 45 minutes: £37.00
