Peloponnes Card Game
I've always found Peloponnes a cracker of game and this card game is a terrific adaptation of the original. Set in Ancient Greece (the Peloponnese is the southern part of mainland Greece), players develop their city state by adding buildings and land. Each round starts with a clever bidding mechanism through which players try to get the cards they want.
Land produces resources, buildings provide special abilities and both are very useful. The key, though is gaining and supporting a bigger population. And dealing with various disasters as they occur. The game plays quickly – and has been streamlined from the original – to a satisfying conclusion. It's a very clever game in a small package.
For 2-5 players, aged 10+, playing time 45 minutes: £15.00 (£12.50 outside the UK)
