Verräter
This seminal design dates back to 1998, but remains a cracking game and far meatier than its small size suggests. The title translates as " Traitor" , which is the most powerful of the roles available as players act for the Rose or Eagle family (and probably both at different times).
In each round, players use their cards (and the powers of their role) in an attempt to change the allegiance of one district and, of course, score points. The game plays until each player's been start player a set number of times – though the game can end sooner – there are some possible bonus points and the player with the most points wins. While its mechanisms have appeared in other games subsequently, it is still a treat to play.
