Altiplano
Altiplano was my introduction to 'bag-building' games. That is, where players collect resources but keep them in a cloth bag and can only draw them at random. It's a mechanism that's nicely tactile as well as clever.
Set in the high Andes, the game's basic mechanism is simple: move around the location tiles and collect resources. You know, the sorts of things you find in South America: maize, cacao, fish, alpacas... The tricky bit is that what you can do with those resources (and thus which are most valuable) depends on your personal board. It's really annoying the way other players get in the way of what is valuable to you and incidental to them.
I do enjoy this game, which I really must play more often.
