Carthago: Merchants and Guilds
This is a clever, tactical game of trading set around the port of ancient Carthage. If this sounds familiar, that's because it's based on Bernd Eisenstein's 2010 game, Porto Carthago, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
This game does not have the central board of the original. Instead, the game is centred on card play. However, players still take actions to earn income, obtain goods and load the goods onto merchant ships. They may also gain influence over different sections of the city.
After the game's three rounds, it's the combination of players' trading ships and influence that gives their score. It's an interesting development of the original game that I look forward to playing properly.
