Les Petites Bêtes Soyeuses
Pevans's En Garde! game
Les Petites Bêtes Soyeuses is a game of En Garde! (the swashbuckling role-playing game) using a turn-based or Play-By-e-Mail format. Each turn is a month in the game. Players negotiate with each other and then send orders for their character to the GM, Pevans (me!). I adjudicate what happens and produce a narrative report for all players. Players also get an individual character sheet. This sets out the attributes of their character and what happened to them in the month (game turn) just finished.
This format allows lots of people to play in a single game (LPBS has had as many as eighty players – far too many to fit round a table!). To allow players enough time to negotiate (often done by phone or e-mail), there is a gap of several weeks between turns. This also lets the GM catch his breath!
In order to take part, you have to subscribe to Les Petites Bêtes Soyeuses. This is published as part of my games magazine, To Win Just Once, which is available on paper or as a PDF. Subscription details are on the To Win Just Once page.
Les Petites Bêtes Soyeuses is played to the published rules of En Garde! as clarified, adapted and extended by my house rules. These are available here as a PDF document: LPBS rules (0.6 Mb) – you will need Adobe Reader to view this. A new edition of the En Garde! rulebook was published at the end of 2005 and is available in games shops. You can also buy it from Games from Pevans, my online games shop.
