Blitzkrieg! (Second edition)
The game is sub-titled "World War Two in 20 minutes" and it really does live up to this. Given this time scale, it's no surprise that it's a highly abstracted WW2. The players (Axis and Allies) are fighting over five wartime 'theatres', alternately deploying troops to swing the balance in their favour.
As each 'campaign' is completed, players score points if they have the lead in that theatre and the winner is the first to 25 points. Add in special actions (like 'bombing' your opponent to reduce the number of units they have available) and there's a lot to think about.
It's a really clever tactical game where you need to counter your opponent's moves while staying ahead in enough theatres. This second (2021) edition has polished up the rules and allows solitaire play (designed by Dávid Turczi).
It also includes the Nippon Expansion – a war between the victorious Axis powers, Germany and Japan, across North America in 1946. With Godzilla on the Japanese side... It's essentially the same game, but with a rather different vibe.
For 1-2 players, aged 14+, playing time 20-45 minutes: £30.00 (£25.00 without tax outside the UK)
