Kohle & Kolonie (2nd ed)

This is a heavyweight game of coal mining in Germany's Ruhr region during the 19th (and early 20th) century. Players start with a small mine and must develop this so that they retain control when the mines start merging into bigger operations.

That's once they've got to grips with managing their mine: hiring workers, maintaining the internal rail system and guarding against accidents.

Note that, despite the German title, the game is in English as well as German.
