Le Havre (complete ed)
I always think of this as "what Uwe did after Agricola" as it was published the following year (which I find amazing, given the amount of work that must have gone into both games). The similarity is that both games have a harvest and require players to pay food. However, this game is about developing and diversifying the French port of Le Havre.
Players acquire goods, which they can turn into more 'advanced' goods (clay into bricks is an obvious example) or, crucially, use to construct buildings. It's these buildings that provide the actions to upgrade goods (the Brickworks is where clay becomes bricks, for example). They also add to the owning player's wealth at the end of the game.
It's a nicely complicated game that offers more opportunities and alternatives as you get familiar with it. This edition "includes Le Grand Hameau [extra building tiles] and all bonus cards ever published".
For 1-5 players, aged 12+, playing time 30-150 minutes: £48.00 (£40.00 tax free outside the UK)
