Black Forest
A new game from Uwe Rosenberg has to be worth a look and this is quite a big one (the chunky box weighs in at over 3 Kgs). It's actually a development from his Glass Road from 2013. Thus, players are again 13th century glass-blowers in the Black Forest, producing their glass from local materials (mainly wood) and moving on every few years once they'd cleared the trees. This clearance in turn leads to the establishment of farms and communities in the area.
Players start with their own 'estate' with initial forested areas and their 'Glass hut' where glass is made. Their actions are governed by what's available in the village where their worker pawn is or moves to. Actions let them gain or expend resources, in particular to construct buildings that will give them more/better actions. Players' resources are tracked on their two production dials, a neat mechanism that is one element carried over from Glass Road.
As you'd expect, there is a potentially-bewildering array of options available to players. Once you start doing things, this narrows down as you build on what those first few actions open up.
For 1-4 players, aged 14+, playing time 60-120 minutes: £50.00 (£41.67 tax free outside the UK)
