Fearless/Furchtlos
The latest (2025) trick-taking card game from Friedemann Friese has the theme of trying to stay out of the scary, scary forest. (And don't wear a red riding hood!)
In game terms, there are four suits of cards with values from +6 to -6 and pawns ('ghosts') for each player. It's played as a standard trick-taking game (follow the suit of the first card played, highest card wins the trick and plays first on the next trick). However, the values of the cards played in a trick are added up and the winning player's ghost moves that number of spaces up or down the 'scare track'.
At the end of the hand, players score their position on the track (whether positive or negative) as 'fear' points. When you've played as many hands as players, whoever has the lowest fear wins. It may be a whimsical theme, but it's clever game and plays quickly.
Note: this is a bilingual English/German edition with only the German title on the cover.
For 3-5 players, aged 10+, playing time 30 minutes: £9.00 (£7.50 tax free outside the UK)
