Robo Rally: 30th Anniversary Edition
I've had a lot of fun with this game over the years and couldn't resist this latest edition. The game is a race around a factory floor for a bunch of robots. And it's a very dangerous factory, replete with laser beams, conveyor belts, crushers and deep pits! What's more, the robots are armed with lasers too!
First you program your robot with simple instructions (ahead, turn left and so on) from your hand of cards. Then you action everybody's programs simultaneously, one action at a time. And mayhem ensues! You may have wanted your robot to go straight ahead, but someone has knocked you onto a conveyor belt and you're heading the wrong way!
Destruction is not the end, however. Your robot re-materialises at its last checkpoint (which may allow an upgrade) and the race continues. First to complete the course around the factory wins, but the real satisfaction is in shoving your opponents down a pit or into the lasers.
Robo Rally has been through several editions (it was originally Roborally for a start) and this celebratory one blings up (sorry, 'deluxifies') the game with painted robot figures (increasing the player count to 8), dual-layer player/robot boards and more. It's hefty package, weighing in at well over 3 Kgs.
For 2-8 players, aged 12+, playing time 45-90 minutes: £95.00 (£79.17 tax free outside the UK)
