Cover of Suburbia 2nd ed - a citscape in shades of blueSuburbia (Second edition)

The main goal of Suburbia is to increase the reputation of your 'Borough' so that more people will live there than in any of the others. This you do by adding new developments – such as factories, parks or housing estates – which increase your Income (so that you can buy more developments) and Reputation. The higher your reputation, the more people will come to your borough each round.

Of course the other players want those developments as well. Timing is crucial to get the developments you want – unless you can afford to pay extra for them. At the same time, you need to look for synergy between your developments to maximise your returns. And keep in mind the bonuses that are available at the end of the game. These can have a big effect on the final result.

Having played it a lot, I'm impressed by Suburbia. It's a clever game where you need to keep an eye on what's coming up in the market and just what your opponents are up to. There's great satisfaction in putting together a good mix of developments, even if your borough isn't the best, which means the game is good fun even when (like me!) you're losing.

The second edition is in a bigger box – not least because the tiles are bigger – and has refreshed artwork. It also contains some useful storage trays for all those tiles.

For 1-4 players, aged 8+, playing time 90 minutes: £56.00 (£46.67 tax-free outside the UK)
