Firefly: the Game
Fans of Joss Whedon's short-lived TV series, Firefly*, will not be disappointed in this game. It succeeds in capturing the free-wheeling, cowboy spirit of the show and has room for many of the characters and incidents that made it memorable.
If you're not familiar with Firefly, the game is still an entertaining challenge as you captain your 'general transport' spaceship from planet to planet, collecting passengers and cargo, taking on odd jobs (not all of them legal) and occasionally tangling with the law. Or, worse, tangling with those outside the law!
The game has several scenarios, each giving players a different set of goals, so there is plenty of variety in what you're doing. Large decks of cards – for crew members, equipment, jobs – add to the variety and give the game plenty of replay value.
I now have both the standard edition (up to four players) and the Special edition (which includes the Artful Dodger ship, allowing up to five players, and 7 extra cards).
And there are lots of expansions. I have: Artful Dodger (a more advanced ship, included in the special edition), Breakin' Atmo (additional cards), Pirates and Bounty Hunters (different ships, new scenarios and the option of going pirate!), Blue Sun
(a whole
new star system, with
its own jobs and supplies, and reinforcements for the fearsome reavers), Kalidasa
(another star system and more Rim space), Crime and Punishment (more Misbehaving and a more dangerous Alliance) and The Whole Damn 'Verse vinyl map – see below for more on these.
* Yep, I'm one of them.

Firefly: the Game – Artful Dodger
Need another ship? This is the one! The Artful Dodger is a modified 'series II' Firefly with a faster drive and room for more crew, but less cargo. It's a turquoise model with supporting cards and die.
Adds a player to the base game, so that's 1-5 players, aged 13+, 2-4 hours: £10.00 (£8.33 tax free outside the UK)

Firefly: the Game – Breakin' Atmo
This is a simple expansion. It just provides some more cards – jobs from all the contacts and crew and equipment at all the spaceports – to add to the variety of the game. They are marked with a specific logo so you can always take them out again if you don't want to use them.
As the base game (1-4 players, aged 13+, 2-4 hours): £9.00 (£7.50 tax free outside the UK)

Firefly: the Game – Pirates and Bounty Hunters
The big thing this expansion adds to the game is more player interaction: jobs that require players to steal from each other. Hence the pirates of the title. The bounty hunters bit is a set of 'wanted' cards for certain crew members. They can then be captured and turned in for the offered reward – though it's a bit much to do this to your own crew! To go with this, the expansion includes some more aggressive leaders and 'lawmen' – crew who are specifically hunting the wanted.
On top of this, the box includes two new spaceships, with models, ship boards and drive core cards for both. This allows more players to take part and provides different options for players. All in all, this is a cracking expansion and I don't play the game without it.
For 2-6 players, aged 13+, playing time 2-4 hours: £25.00 (£20.83 tax free outside the UK)

Firefly: the Game – Blue Sun
This is a big expansion with a new add-on board showing the blue sun and its satellite suns and planets. These provide a new source of supplies and two new contacts providing jobs. However, it's also rim space and the reavers are more active – with two more reaver ships in play, making them a serious threat. As you'd expect, there are new scenarios, giving players fresh challenges, and new leaders. It's good stuff, especially when you've played the base game a few times
– another expansion I always include.
For 1-4 players, aged 13+, playing time 2-4 hours: £27.00 (£22.50 tax free outside the UK)

Firefly: the Game – Kalidasa
Kalidasa extends the 'Verse a bit further, adding Rim space on the opposite side from the Blue Sun. Apart from the board showing the Kalidasa system itself, there are extra jobs for the existing Contacts, taking players to Kalidasa. Two new Contacts provide jobs going the other way, while a new Supply location provides resources – and there are new resource cards for the existing supply planets.
To make sure Rim space isn't safe, the expansion also adds the 'Operative' and his corvette, patrolling the Rim on behalf of the Alliance. Add in new Set-up and Story cards, plus replacement Nav decks and there's a lot in the box.
For 1+ players, aged 12+, playing time 2-4 hours: £27.00 (£22.50 tax free outside the UK)

Firefly: the Game – Crime and Punishment
This is a nice little expansion, adding extra cards to the " Misbehave" deck – some of these have more than one stage to them. There are also a couple of new Story and Set-up cards, using the new " Alliance Alert" rules. These make the Alliance rather more of a threat and impose temporary restrictions on players
For 1+ players, aged 14+, playing time 2-4 hours: £15.00 (£12.50 tax free outside the UK)

Firefly: the Game – The Whole Damn 'Verse
I think this one is for the completist. Oh, that's me! It's a vinyl (NOT neoprene) playmat merging all three boards (base, Blue Sun and Kalidasa) to show all the planets and systems of the 'Verse. It's useful not having the folds and joins in the boards (it comes rolled up in a tube), but has no effect on gameplay.
