Hamsterrolle
Entertaining dexterity games are what Zoch is best known for: Hamsterrolle is one of these clever, fun games – Bamboleo is another of my favourites. Here the playing 'surface' is a wooden hoop, resembling a hamster's wheel. Shelves on the interior enable players to balance their wooden blocks.
Players take it in turns to place a block inside the hoop. This always has to be clockwise, so the wheel gradually turns, rolling across the table. As it does, blocks will fall out. The bad news is that anything that falls out on your turn is added to your stock. But the way to win is to get rid of all your blocks!
Like all the best games, the rules are simple, but playing is another matter. It's surprising how big a block you can add to a ledge without it falling off. And also surprising how small a rod will tip the whole wheel, cascading pieces over the table! It's great fun and a wonderful after-dinner family game.
Note: the size of the box means I have to send Hamsterrolle separately from any other games in the same order.
For 2-4 players, aged 7+, playing time 30 minutes: £45.00 (£37.50 outside the UK).
