The Ming Voyages
The focus of this game is the voyages of exploration undertaken by the Chinese fleet under the Ming Emperors. (These also have a small role in Alan's earlier game, Confucius.) One player is the Emperor, trying to complete the voyages while being distracted by the recurring barbarian threats around China's borders. In a two-player game, the other player controls those threats.
The game is a development of David Mortimer's The Cousins' War. Like that game, it's powered by a small deck of cards – each with multiple uses – with conflict resolved by a clever dice roll mechanism. I find it an interesting challenge played solitaire and even more so as a two-player game.
For 1-2 players, aged 12+, playing time 30 minutes: £15.00 (£12.50 tax free outside the UK)
