Cover of Primeval Peril - a fishing boat puffs its way up river under a rainforest canopy and past a giant crocodilePrimeval Peril

Set in the world of the brilliant Sleeping Gods, this is a one- (or two-) player co-operative story-telling game. Like the original, it is powered by a paragraph book, but it's all on a smaller scale.

We start one foggy 1920s evening on board a fishing boat in San Francisco harbour. But it doesn't stay there for long. The boat is thrown into a strange, fantastical world and one of those on board abducted. The remaining characters must navigate the perils of a tropical river (depicted on the pages of the game's atlas) if they are to rescue the abductee and return to their own world.

As with the original game, player/s will need to gather resources, improve their skills and, hopefully, gain allies that will help them survive. Not to mention fighting off the creatures and enemies they encounter along the way – the game has quite a detailed combat system that's almost a game in itself.

I also stock the original game, Sleeping Gods, and its sort-of sequel, Distant Skies (where the players are the crew and passengers of a 1930s aircraft lost in this world).

For 1-2 (though it can stretch up to 4) players, aged 13+, playing time 2-4 hours: £32.00 (£26.67 tax free outside the UK)
